Know about Aboriginal Water Reserves

Aboriginal water reserves are a portion of water set aside in a water plan for the economic benefit of eligible Aboriginal landowners.

The Strategic Aboriginal Water Policy Framework was first established in 2017 and set about putting aside water for Aboriginal water reserves in perpetuity. It meant that with every licence decision, consideration was given to the future economic water requirements of Aboriginal landowners.

A Frequently Asked Questions document PDF (1.7 MB) has been developed to make key information more accessible and provide clear guidance on how Aboriginal landowners can use these water reserves to support economic development.
