New guides to boost water savings in the Territory

Established in 2014, Power and Water Corporation's Living Water Smart (LWS) program helps households and businesses reduce water use through practical education, water-wise tools and simple actions to cut waste and reduce leaks.

Originally delivered in the Top End, the program has now expanded to support regional communities across the Territory.

As part of the expansion, the program has been updated with new, location-specific information, including a personalised water-saving calculator that provides simple tips to help Territorians save water and money.

Supported by the Office of Water Security, the LWS program has installed data loggers on high consumption meters in Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs, improving the ability to detect leaks early.

Territorians can also access a new Top End ultimate irrigation user guide, which provides practical advice on how to be water wise in the garden.

For more information about the guide, go to the Living Water Smart website.

Inside the guide you’ll find:

  • seasonal watering tips tailored to the Top End climate
  • easy irrigation scheduling to work with the weather
  • design and maintenance advice for sprinklers, drippers and timers.

A Central Australian version of the irrigation guide is currently in development and will be launched in Alice Springs in April 2026.
