Call for submissions – Seeking views on a future national water agreement

The Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water has launched national consultation to inform the development of a new national water agreement that can meet the emerging challenges to Australia’s water security and water management.

The new agreement builds on the 2004 National Water Initiative and with your help, it will serve Australia well into the future.

It offers the opportunity to elevate the Cultural, spiritual, social, economic, and environmental interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples within Australia’s water policies, programs and legislation.

The new agreement wants to examine ways to solve new policy challenges that have emerged since the previous agreement. Some of these include climate change, ensuring access to safe and secure drinking water, and developing a strategic approach to groundwater management.

Have your say on the development of a new agreement

Anyone can take part in what the new agreement should look like through the consultation process. Please take a look at the following link: Seeking views on a future national water agreement
